Bellingen Golf Report

Wednesday's chook run was boosted by 8 visitors from Urunga, which enabled us to give out six prizes. However, quite a few scores were not entered and cards not returned. Winners went from Stan McCabe on 21,with Barry Martin also, as well as Ross Williams,T.Renshall, C.Smith and R. Begonia. Glenn Jones scored the NTP again. Great conditions for Saturday's final round of the club championships sponsored by Parsons Warman and Rose encouraged another great field of 63 starters. The daily winners included S. McNeil with 77/66 from Kiwi on 67 on a count back in A Grade. B grade went to John Lavis  with 82/65, from Merv Brownlee on 85/70. T.Khan won C grade with 94/67 from T.Cuthel on 99/68. Some of these good nett scores enabled those players to secure good prizes in the championship events. The ball winners included C.Warman,G.Brown,C.Osland, C.Blyth,G.Hawkes,R.Hind,T.Cleary and Barney Woodward. It was a long day of golf, with the last players finishing very late which made the presentation quite late as well. However, a good group of players stayed behind to enjoy some snacks put on by the sponsors and then watch the presentation for the main event. The Club Champion and winner of the herringbone jacket for 2013 was Peter Nolan with a gross score of 317,to edge out Craig Blyth on 319. It was an exciting match played in good spirits with the scores even with two holes to play. Dale Leslie just missed out being in the seeded last group for B grade, but this turned out to his advantage when he came from the clouds to snatch victory by one-shot on 364 from Mick Raymond on 365 on a count back! Two players from the seeded group were sent out for a sudden death play-off not realising that Dale was lurking in a later group. Stan McCabe lead through three rounds of the championships and in the fourth round could not be headed. He posted his worst score, but the other players also found conditions difficult. His total was 392, from Gerry Pegeuro on 399. Deciding the nett winner in A grade was a close run thing, going down to a count -back on the last six holes of the final round. R.Crawford prevailed , over C.Warman , both finishing on 279. B grade was easier, with D.Lyon  on 285 ,winning from J.Lavis on 294. Toby Cuthel's very good last round in enabled him to snatch the C grade nett event on 282 from Peter Kenny on 290. All winners please see me as soon as you can so that your shirts can be ordered. The most miserly putter over the Championships was Robert Crawford. Peter Kenny on 290 won the Spud Lavender Memorial trophy for the best left-hander. This was the best attended Championships for many years, so I can only presume that the same format will continue next year.Again, thank you to our major sponsor SOLAR P V,and our daily sponsors and the helpers who worked to put this event together. Greens renovations will be beginning soon,so if you can help let Russell know. Next week's event is a relaxing 4 BBB, sponsored by Trevor and Sue Wilson Brown

Cheers Smithy.
