On Tuesday 4 May Bellingen Golf Club will host the annual 36 hole
Women’s Golf Central North Coast Senior Ladies Tournament. The 2 day
event which draws a field of up to 140 players from Forster Tuncurry
to Woolgoolga enables senior women players to compete at all levels.
In order to get this number of players through the course, there
will be two shotgun starts – one starting at 7.30 am and a second at
12.00pm. Bellingen Club has 20 ladies competing in the event.
This tournament is in its 37th year and there are players who have
never missed a tee-off. Each year a different district club hosts
the tournament – next year it will be at Harrington.
After a very wet year last year which resulted in many events having
to be cancelled, Bellingen Golf Club is looking forward to hosting
this event and green staff and volunteers have put many hours of
work into getting the course into tip top condition.
Jan Kearsley, President of the Women’s Golf Committee said that the
Club is looking forward to showing off our course and welcoming
visiting golfers to Bellingen. “We want our visitors to have a
really enjoyable two days of golf but also time to shop, enjoy a
coffee and a wander in our town.”
A welcome dinner will be held on the Tuesday night followed by
entertainment put on by the host club. Presentation is held at the
end of the second day. Several major prizes will be contested at the
Senior Ladies Tournament. The most sought after trophy is the
Veterans Salver, awarded to the best stableford score over the two
days. Bellingen Club will also have our Super Vets (70 years and
over), competing for the Barbara Boyd Cup, which is awarded for the
Best Score over the field. Last time Bellingen hosted this event
(back in 2004) our Super Vet, Vilma Neill won this coveted trophy.
This year she will be lining up again along with a couple of other
Bellingen “young at heart” Super Vets Maggie Oliver and Betty
Cockerill.
It's been a huge golfing week this week with Bellingen hosting the
CNC Senior Ladies District Tournament on Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5
May. This event attracted 120 ladies from Forster/Tuncurry to
Woolgoolga and was a very successful and enjoyable event - despite
the rain on Tuesday. The visitors thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and
entertainment put on by the Bellingen golfers on the Tuesday night.
